1588 - 1590

The Mantova Capitale Europea dello Spettacolo Research Institute started its activities in January 1999, became a foundation in April 2000, and was legally recognised by Regione Lombardia in the following October.
At present, its main activity lies in researching documents on performances executed under the patronage of the Lords of Mantua, the Gonzaga, in an age when their rule reached the zenith of its splendour (1480-1630).

Besides, the Foundation furthers theatrical, dance and music events representing the great themes of the Renaissance and the Baroque Age in a modern context. Among such events the Arlecchino d’oro award stands out. The prize is given to an internationally prominent artist in the field of performing arts.
